Ask Fertility Nurse Hannah: What About Side Effects?

Written by Nurse Hannah | Jun 9, 2023 4:00:00 AM

One of the most common concerns among patients is regarding the side effects of their fertility medications. This is completely understandable, especially considering all the requirements of pharmaceutical companies to list common side effects in commercials and every single side effect on the pamphlet included with your medication.

While all medications have potential side effects, it’s important to remember that not everyone experiences all side effects. Because prescriptions can affect each person differently, side effects that bother some people won’t affect others at all.

For this installment in our Ask Nurse Hannah series, she’ll address common questions regarding the potential side effects of fertility medications. You can find more information about our Director of Nursing Services, Hannah Lind, RN, here.

Question: What are the possible side effects of the medications prescribed to me?

Hannah: Each medication will have a different list of possible side effects, and of course, each person has the potential to experience these medications differently. Our pharmacists and nurses can review general and overall side effects, in addition to individual medications, upon request. When you call to fill your prescription, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Question: What should I do if I experience any side effects or have questions about my medications?

Hannah: Side effects of the medications can happen during fertility treatment, but they are generally mild and tolerable. Common side effects our patients report to us are things like:

Again, each medication can have different side effects, so if you’re experiencing anything out of the ordinary, don’t hesitate to contact the medical team at your fertility clinic or reach out to us at VFP.

Additionally, if you’re looking for help alleviating the side effects, please ask me or one of the pharmacists. We typically have good recommendations for what will help you.
